WHAT'S FOR DINNER? DAY 8 OF THE MARCH SOLSC! #SOL16

I am participating in the Slice of Life Story Challenge (SOLSC; #SOL16)
hosted by Two Writing Teachers
Each day for the month of March I will be posting a "Slice of Life".
Please feel free to stop back and check out my other posts here.

WHAT'S FOR DINNER?

"What's for dinner?"

"I don't know...what do you want?"

"I don't know."

The characters change...the words remain the same. Whether I'm asking my husband, or my son is asking me, or my husband is asking... You get the picture!

Nobody knows what's for dinner. Nobody wants to take ownership of it. There is homework being done. There are video games being played or TV being watched. There is drawing, lego building, and tea partying, puzzling, or reading happening around the house. But there is no dinner.

I'd rather curl up on the couch & do nothing. I'm tired...Everybody's tired.

And yet, again, the refrain is heard...

"What's for dinner?"

"I don't know...what do you want?"

"I don't know."

Maybe if we just keep asking & wish hard enough, dinner will just appear!

  1. I love the humor of this! Of course, what makes it humorous is just how true it is!

  4. and that is why take out does a booming business and we all eat frozen microwaveable dinners. On Sunday we make a BIG dinner and then eat leftovers for a day or two= or stretch the odds and ends with pasta. Thank god for soup and sandwiches or breakfast for dinner.

  6. I went through a dinner rut about two years ago where I just didn't know what to make. I subscribed to Plated and Blue Apron for awhile and got some fresh new recipes (plus all of the ingredients) sent to my home. It was wonderful. And nowadays, I still have their recipes so I can make their dinners myself. (For instance, I'm making one of the Plated recipes I got two years ago for dinner night.)
In case you try it, I'd go with Blue Apron first. Their portion sizes were bigger.

  7. If only there was such a thing as the dinner fairy. I had this same conversation tonight at my house. Isn't it nice to know we are not alone?
